Abstract:
An investigation was made of the photoinduced birefringence in a ferroelectric with a broad phase transition. It was found that the longitudinal electrooptic effect in an insulator-crystal-insulator layer structure could be used for long-term recording of optical images. The nature of the photoinduced birefringence was associated with the photogeneration of free carriers in the crystal.
