A change in the refractive properties of water irradiated by a 2.94-μm erbium laser

Abstract: A decrease in the refractive index of water in its transparency region caused by irradiation by high-power 100-ps pulses from a 2.94-μm erbium laser is found and measured. The possible reasons for this phenomenon are discussed.
