Magnetic field in the front of a laser plasma expanding into the ambient medium

Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of spontaneous magnetic fields generated in the front of a laser plasma expanding into the ambient medium. An increase in the ambient medium pressure resulted in generation not only of a positive component of the field but also of a field with the opposite sign inside the plasma. The results obtained were explained qualitatively.
