Breakdown of an erosion jet formed as a result of quasicontinuous laser irradiation of metals

Abstract: Estimates are obtained of the intensity of laser radiation resulting in breakdown of metal vapors formed as a result of quasicontinuous laser irradiation. The dependences of this intensity on the nature of the metal, surrounding gas, radius of the focusing spot, pressure, and other parameters are discussed. A comparison is made with the experimental results.
