Spectroscopy and lasing characteristics of BaEr2F8:Tm:Ho crystals

Abstract:
The pump bands of The pump bands of BaEr2F8:Tm:Ho crystals were identified from their contribution to the excitation of the 5I7 (Ho) active level and to the heat release. Aspects of the stability of a crossrelaxation scheme for conversion of the absorbed energy in BaEr2F8:Tm:Ho were studied when the Ho activator concentration was varied in the range 0.5–1.5%. It was found that under freerunning conditions, BaEr2F8:[Tm( 5%) + Ho(0.5%) ] was the best of the crystals studied.
