The review presents systematic data on the methods of synthesis and chemical properties of phosphorylated aldehydes. Attention has been concentrated on organophosphorus compounds containing the formyl group in the alkyl substituent linked to the phosphorus atom by a C–P bond. The phenomena of keto-enol tautomerism of phosphorylated aldehydes are described in greater detail, the influence of various factors on the position of the keto-enol equilibrium is assessed, and the geometrical structure of the enols formed is considered.
