Influence of external circuit parameters on the stability of an electrical discharge

Abstract: The effect of the parameters of an external electrical circuit (capacitance, inductance, resistance) on the thermal instability in an electrode-stabilized electrical discharge is examined. It is shown that both monotonic and oscillatory loss of stability can occur and the latter can show up at lower currents.
