Effect of sound on gas temperature in nitrogen plasma

Abstract: The effect of sound on the gas temperature in a nitrogen discharge with pressures $10$$60 mm Hg, discharge currents 40$$90$ mA, and sound intensity $70$$95$ dB was investigated experimentally. It was established that sound generation in a nitrogen discharge results in a decrease of the gas temperature on the axis and an increase of the gas temperature on the walls of the tube. In the process, the radial drop of the gas temperature decreases. The effect of the sound-induced decrease of the gradient of the gas temperature in a nitrogen discharge increased with increasing sound intensity and gas pressure (with constant discharge current), while an increase of the discharge current weakened this effect.
