Abstract: A new approach to the creation of new-generation CFD algorithms combining the advantages of conservative and characteristic difference schemes is discussed.

Key words: computational fluid dynamics, difference scheme, conservation laws, hyperbolic equations, characteristic form, flux correction, grid-characteristic method.
