Babadzhanov, Pulat Babadzhanovich
Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences
Birth date: 15.10.1930

Earth and Planetary Sciences, Physics and Astronomy

The basic researches of P.B. Babadzhanov are in the field of meteor astronomy. He determined the orbits of more than 400 meteors, discovered more than 20 new meteor showers - associations. He studied the structure and origin of meteor showers, the characteristics of the distribution of orbits of meteor bodies in interplanetary space. In accordance with international programs, he studied the physical parameters of the upper layers of the earth’s atmosphere in the meteor zone in 1957-1959 based on photographic and radar observations of meteors. He organized the Soviet equatorial expedition (Somalia, 1968-1970), which carried out a cycle of measurements of the drift of meteor trails over the equator; as a result, experimental data were obtained on the laws of motion of the upper equatorial atmosphere. Under his supervision, the equipment was created and methods were developed for the study of physical phenomena accompanying the flight of meteoroids in the atmosphere; for the first time in the USSR, parallel photographic and radar observations of meteors were conducted.
