Dispatching and Automation in the National Economy

Method of designing mechanismes for automatic equipment

A. P. Ivanov

Baltic State Technical University «Voenmech»
Abstract: The present work sets forth the problems concerning the situation in methods of designing flat mechanisms and methods for evaluation of mechanisms of industrial automatic and semi-automatic equipment in regard to precision, sensitiveness, reliability and duration of service. The author points out that technical literature both in the USSR and abroad gives no proper reply to these questions. The first part of this work contains a review of the most essential methods of kinematic and dynamic synthesis of flat mechanisms and renders a description of the corresponding new types of mechanisms. In the second part of this work confining himself to consideration of purely mechanical means, the author, on the basis of some, new theoretical generalizations, propounds several problems which, as a whole, determine the quantitative nature of the quality of mechanisms of industrial automatic and semiautomatic equipment. The evaluation indices of mechanisms proposed by the author for precision, sensitivity and reciprocal action reliability, as well as graphic and analytic methods of ascertaining these coefficients on the base of approximate calculation theory necessitated introduction of new conceptions, namely of circles of error and dead zones. There is made use of conceptions of the transmission angle, the linear and angular limits of tolerance, and the inaccuracies, which are to be taken into account of actual manufacture, assemblage and working of constructions of different kinds of kinematic chains of mechanism links. The methods proposed by the author for the solution of the problem, apart from a greater conformity to actual conditions than that obtained with; the usual methods, also permit the explanation of advantages and shortcomings both in designing and construction of mechanisms. These methods permit the designer to choose the correct path in selection of means for securing proper working of the equipment. On instances of application of the methods proposed by the author is demonstrated the necessity of taking into account, in addition to geometrical proportions, also the mechanical and physical factors: wear and fear, linear and angular errors under conditions , of actual manufacture, assemblage and operation of kinematic couples and chains, elastic deformation of their links, etc. Together with consideration of the problem of establishing evaluation indices of automatic and semi-automatic mechanisms, the close reciprocal relation is, proved between this question and, another actual problem — that of determination of linear limits of tolerance m mechanism link chains. The ultimate object of the present work is the attempt to give grounds to the scientific methods for solving the problem concerned, thereby giving rise to the theory of assembling and adjusting the industrial automatic mechanisms.
