Image segmentation: the state-of-art

The method published in the Foreign and Soviet literature on segmentation of digital grey scale images into uniform areas are analyzed. The most important segmentation algorithms are clustering, increasing, fragmenting, boundary analysis, and combined. The state-of-art in the field is characterized. Specific operations in processig «wave»-like images are described.
