Thermal dynamics of a weld joint in the collision of dissimilar material plates

M. S. Kachan, E. P. Kurochkina

Novosibirsk
Abstract: Solution is obtained for the nonsymmetric multifrontal Stefan problem for the case of joining plates made from copper and steel. Differing from the symmetric problem, here it is noted that a solid zone close to the contact appears in both plates. The melt is completely solidified in 3 $\mu$sec, which is comparable to the time for the possible arrival of tensile stresses.
