Abstract:
The thermal electromotive force (emf) in Bi quantum wires has been calculated in the model of potential in the form of a paraboloid of revolution in a uniform magnetic field $\mathbf{H}$, which is normal to the axis of the studied nanostructure, and in a direct-current (dc) electric field $\mathbf{E}\parallel\mathbf{H}$. It has been shown that, with an increase in $\mathbf{E}$, the thermal emf $\alpha_{xx}$ is described by a nonmonotonic function at different values of $\mathbf{H}$. A physical interpretation of this behavior of $\alpha_{xx}$ as a function of $\mathbf{E}$ is proposed with account for the interaction between carriers and the rough surface of the nanowire.
