Abstract:
This work presents the results of field surveys of selected areas of Karachay-Cherkessia and Krasnodar Territory by the Center for Geographical Research, for the presence of hazardous natural processes
characteristic of this area. Among the HEP (hazardous exogenic processes) studied by us, mudflow and
flood events can be classified as the most dangerous in the Western Caucasus. If the first of them, for the
most part, are manifested in the mountainous part, where the height of the marks varies from 1000 to
2500 m above sea level, then, starting from the foothills, mudflows turn into floods, causing waterlogging
and flooding, which cause enormous damage to agriculture and national economic facilities (NEF). The
results obtained by us in the course of field research are subsequently entered into the internal database
of the Center and are used as a necessary and sufficient material for compiling digital maps of the actual
danger of the surveyed area. In this case, these are some mudflow basins of the Western Caucasus (the
Gurman river in the Mostovsky district of the Krasnodar Territory, the Bagovskaya village and the left
unnamed tributary of the Bolshaya Laba river (below the Rozhkao village of the Urupsky district)).
