Abstract:
The excess entropy $\Delta S$ with respect to the maternal crystal has been determined for 18 metallic glasses differing in the mixing entropy $\Delta S_{\mathrm{mix}}$. Using these data, thermodynamic fragility $m_{\Delta s}$ has been determined within the Adam–Gibbs model. It has been shown that $m_{\Delta s}$ increases with $\Delta S_{\mathrm{mix}}$ but decreases with increasing $\Delta S$, which reflects the degree of structural disorder in a glass. It has been concluded that the so-called “high-entropy glasses” (i.e., having high $\Delta S_{\mathrm{mix}}$) are indeed most ordered and their properties are characterized by the slowest relaxation.
