Abstract:
It is shown that a new source of electromagnetic radiation in a wide spectral range can be implemented based on the effect of contactless multiple rotation of a charged particle beam in a ring-shaped channel. For nonrelativistic electrons, the radiation can range from submillimeter waves to radio waves. For relativistic ones, the radiation becomes directed. In the latter case, it can be generated in the IR, optical, and UV parts of the spectrum. At high energies, the X-ray and gamma ranges can be covered, The differences between the new source and synchrotron radiation sources are considered in detail. Since the ring-shaped channel admits high currents, the radiation intensity at energies of 1–2 GeV is very high. If the inner diameter of the ring is small (several tens of nanometers), directed and synchrotron radiations may arise simultaneously.
