Abstract: 4-Styrylpyridinium dyes containing N-methyl and N-(3-pyridiniopropyl) substituents have been prepared and characterized by optical and CD spectroscopy. These compounds demonstrate affinity to calf thymus DNA, with dye–DNA binding mode being different for various N-substituents.
Keywords: styryl dye, DNA, intercalation, groove binding, fluorescent probes.
