Abstract: A new derivative of 4-styryl-1,8-naphthalimide containing a dipicolylamine receptor moiety demonstrated selective optical response to Cu2+ cations in an aqueous Tris-HCl buffer solution due to the formation of 1 : 1 ligand–metal complexes.
