Abstract: The synthesis of compact carbides of refractory titanium and vanadium group metals proceeds in accordance with the phase diagram and is a single-stage polythermal process. The reaction of metal with carbon begins below the melting point of a metal and continues in the melt, held in volume by a layer of refractory carbide. The carburization process is defined by the partial diffusion of metal and carbon over long distances.
Keywords: oxidative constructing, carbide ceramics, single-stage carburization, mechanism of carburization, titanium carbide, vanadium carbide.
