Abstract: The polybromide complex (Et4N)3{[Bi2Br9](Br2)} was obtained by reaction of [BiBr6]3–, Br2 and tetraethylammonium bromide in 2 m HBr. In its crystal structure, bioctahedral [Bi2Br9]3– anions are connected by neutral Br2 linkers into infinite 1D chains via terminal bromide ligands.
