Abstract: The review critically analyzes methods for the preparation of benzimidazolones proceeding via the rearrangements of benzodiazepinones and quinoxalin(on)es, highlights recent advances in the synthesis of bi- and tri-heterocyclic systems with the benzimidazolone moiety, and the advantages and major challenges in their biomedical applications.
