Abstract: Experiments with dilute methane–oxygen mixtures at pressures of 100–200 Torr on the flame front propagation towards the flow of combustible gas created by a fan showed that both the mean flame velocity and the length of the ‘flame jump’ through a hole in a flat obstacle increase with increasing counter flow velocity; i.e., the flame accelerates towards the counter flow of combustible gas from the fan.
Keywords: methane, oxygen, flame jump, counter flow, acceleration, high-speed color filming.
