Abstract: New amphiphilic alkoxyarylporphyrins with long-chain substituents bearing carboxy, methoxycarbonyl and hydroxy groups, and their metal complexes, were synthesized. Those of them having mesogenic properties were identified by optical polarisation microscopy, and their liquid-crystal properties were studied.
