Abstract: The interaction of acetone with a mixture of potassium peroxymonosulfate and europium nitrate hexahydrate powders at 90°C is accompanied by chemiluminescence due to the formation of excited Eu3+; dioxirane is proposed to be a key intermediate responsible for the chemiluminescence observed.
Keywords: chemiluminescence, lanthanides, dioxiranes, singlet oxygen.
