Abstract: A one-pot synthesis of 2-(2-pyridyl)-1H-pyrrole and 1-vinyl-2-(2-pyridyl)-, 1-vinyl-2-(3-pyridyl)- and 1-vinyl-2-(4-pyridyl)-pyrroles from oximes of 2-acetyl-, 3-acetyl- and 4-acetylpyridine and acetylene under pressure (16–25 atm) in a KOH/DMSO system has been carried out (105–120 °C, 3 h) to reveal for the first time the applicability of the Trofimov reaction for the preparation of alkaloids of the nicotine series.
