Abstract:
Mononitroarenes are condensed with 2 mol methyl aryl ketone in DMSO–KOH to yield (Z)-arylamino-l,2-diaroylethylenes, which undergo acid-promoted hydrolysis to l,4-diarylbutane-l,2,4-triones.
