Abstract: Monomeric [λmax ≃ 435 nm, ϵmax ≃ (3.6 ± 0.6) × l03 dm3 mol−1 cm−1 ] and dimeric [λmax ≃ 715 nm, ϵmax ≃ (9.4 ± 1.2) × l03 dm3 mol−1 cm−1 ] radical cations of acetone in a freon matrix at 77 K under the action of light react to form matrix radical cations and acetonyl radicals CH2COMe with quantum yields of Φ > (4.0 ± 1.0) × l0−3 and Φ > (2.0 ± 1.0) × l0−2, respectively.
