Abstract: A new approach to the synthesis of 2-oxo- and 2-amino- 3-cyano-(carbamoyl or ethoxycarbonyl)pyrido[2,3-b]indole (α-carboline) derivatives based on the cyciization of 2-amino-(alkoxy)-3-(β-cyano-β-ethoxycarbonyl)- or 3-(β-cyano-β-carbamoyl)vinylindole derivatives under different conditions has been developed.
