Abstract: Addition of Me2E (E = Si.Ge) to the triple bond of 3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-1-thiacyclohept-4-yne proceeds in a nonconcerted way via a 1,3-biradical intermediate; the first experimental evidence of the participation of an excited triplet Me2E species in a chemical reaction has been obtained.
