The accuracy of particle simulation of the axisymmetric REB propagation
L. V. Glazytchev Moscow Radiotechnical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract:
The paper presents results of numerical studies of the statistical and systematic errors which occur owing to the finiteness of the number of particles and accompany cloud-in-cell simulation of paraxial axisymmetric relativistic electron beams (REB). Confirmed was the assertion that the values of statistical errors decrease as the inverse square root of the number of particles used. The values of systematic errors proved to decrease faster. Although, they can be comparable with the statistical ones for the finite numbers of particles. Generalization of the results made it possible to propose simple criteria for the evaluation of errors of both types for the simulation of stationary as well as nonstationary REB.
