Numerical simulation of the tsunami runup on the coast using the method of large particles

Abstract:
The paper presents an approach to simulation of tsunami waves runup on the coast based on the use of block nested grids and large-particle method for calculating the characteristics of the surface waves on the shore. Computational algorithms are based on the classical equations of shallow water theory. The article describes main elements of created computational technology, the results of the verification and validation of mathematical model and numerical algorithm for one- and two-dimensional test problems. The opportunities of the algorithms are demonstrated by the calculation of the defining parameters of tsunami runup (5 November 1952) on the coast in the vicinity of the Severo-Kurilsk.
