Polarization and spectral characteristics of the two-photon luminescence from colloidal gold nanoparticles excited by tunable laser radiation

Abstract: We have experimentally studied two-photon luminescence from a colloidal solution of spherical gold nanoparticles by tuning the wavelength of the exciting radiation. The measured polarization and spectral characteristics of the two-photon luminescence signal show that the observed nonlinear optical response is determined by the dimers present in the solution with a concentration of a few percent of total nanoparticle number.
