Abstract:
The Wagner–Ellis formula for the minimum radius of nanowire and empirical Givargizov–Chernov formula for its growth rate according to the vapor-liquid-solid mechanism are refined. The consideration used as a basis is a self-consistent model of stationary growth, at which the adsorption-desorption flow of material into a drop is equal to the drain due to the two-dimensional nucleation. The parameters entering the expression of Givargizov–Chernov type are interpreted, and its range of applicability is determined. The results obtained make it possible to interpret more exactly experimental data, determine the minimum nanowire radius under specified growth conditions, and estimate important energy and kinetic constants.
