Interference of separated flows behind backward-facing step in the presence of passive control

Abstract:
The interaction of turbulent separated flows behind a backward-facing step in the presence of a passive miniturbulizer has been experimentally studied using digital particle-tracking velocimetry techniques. It is established that an obstacle placed in front of the step modifies the profiles of velocity and turbulent pulsation and significantly changes the length of a recirculation zone.
