Specific features of the dissociative ionization of methane molecules

Abstract:
Experimental techniques and results of a mass-spectrometric investigation of the yield of positive ions formed as a result of the dissociative electron-impact ionization of methane molecules. It is established that the ionization energy of CH$_4$ molecule is 12.62 $\pm$ 0.25 eV. Possible electron-molecular reactions involved in the interaction of an electron beam with methane molecules are analyzed.
