Performance improving of small-dimension IR photodetectors

Abstract: The design and operation principles of a new IR photodetector with a conducting layer cross-sectional size much smaller than the effective collection length of minority carriers photogenerated in peripheral regions with the opposite type of conductivity are considered. The possibility of achieving very high photosensitivity levels limited by thermal generation at a significant decrease in power consumption is demonstrated.
