Abstract: The life of a person who has left a significant mark on science and culture always sparks interest, especially when this man has endured the trials of their time and, despite the hardships, left behind a legacy that continues to inspire even today. This very topic is the focus of a lecture dedicated to the life and work of an outstanding 20th-century mathematician, educator, and thinker - Mark Yakovlevich Vygodsky. The story of this multifaceted individual will be shared by his great-grandson, Oleg Gurov - MBA, PhD in Philosophy, Associate Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of GAUGN (State Academic University for the Humanities), and Associate Professor at the Presidential Academy. The lecture is based on family memories, archival materials, and historical records. You will learn about the life of M.Y. Vygodsky: his origins, education, scientific and social activities, his contributions to the development of mathematics, and his influence on the formation of the Soviet historical-mathematical school. Special attention will be given to the dramatic story surrounding his work Galileo and the Inquisition, which had a profound impact on his career and, more broadly, on the life of the scientist and his family during the challenging 1930s. And, of course, the lecture will address his teaching career, during which he inspired entire generations of students and remained devoted to his work even in difficult times. Why is this important? For the author of the lecture, M.Y. Vygodsky is not just an ancestor and a scientist, but a symbol of courage, resilience, and love for science. His life is an example of human dignity - one that inspires and commands respect.
