On holomorphic solutions of the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation

There is an open conjecture that every local holomorphic solution of the KP equation can be analytically continued to a globally meromorphic function of the spatial variable. We survey the possible approaches and partial results concerning this conjecture.
