Impact of synchronization on machines

J. Thingna

Abstract: In this talk, I'll discuss how synchronization (classical and quantum) impacts the performance metrics of machines. Particularly, in the classical regime, I'll discuss a thermodynamically consistent model of a work-to-work converter within the framework of stochastic thermodynamics. The model exhibits different phases, and in the synchronizing regime, we observe the maximum power output of the machine. For the quantum case, I'll discuss an N-level generalization of Scovil–Schulz-DuBois thermal maser and discuss how this model exhibits cooperation and competition between entrainment and synchronization due to mutual coupling. I'll then go on to show how the efficiency of the maser can be bounded due to the cooperation and competition between the two synchronizing mechanisms. The talk aims to provide insights into how harnessing synchronization phenomena can enhance machine performance, revealing fundamental mechanisms that can be exploited to optimize thermodynamic processes.
