Acoustic Scattering from Polygonal-Shaped Bodies

D. R. Lepetkov

Tula State University

Abstract: The results of a dissertation project devoted to solving the problem of calculating the scattering of a plane acoustic wave by complex-shaped bodies with polygonal surfaces will be presented. The dissertation develops an analytical and a corresponding validated computational model for calculating the acoustic potential of the scattered wave in the case of an acoustically hard body whose surface is defined by a triangular mesh. For a hard and a liquid sphere, an analytical solution to the scattering problem is derived based on the Burton–Miller equation and Jackson’s spherical expansion of the Green’s function. Analytical and computational models are provided for calculating the acoustic potential of the scattered wave in the case of a liquid body whose surface is defined by a triangular mesh. An analytical and computational model is developed for calculating the acoustic potential of the scattered wave in the case of a homogeneous isotropic linear-elastic body whose surface is defined by a triangular mesh. An optimization of the method for calculating the scattered-wave potential for large meshes is presented. Python-based software employing Numba to accelerate computations has been developed.
