Abstract:
An analysis is made of the spatial coherence of radiation emitted by a laser having a resonator filled with a medium exhibiting random inhomogeneities of the refractive index which are described by a correlation function. It is shown that when the inhomogeneities are strong, these make the main contribution to the divergence of the lowest mode averaged over the realizations of the random medium. Weak inhomogeneities only make a small correction to the diffraction-limited divergence of the laser radiation.
