Abstract: The principal parameters of an optical "knife" used as a physicobiological instrument, are discussed. A comparison is made of the argon and carbon dioxide laser beam as optical knives used in operations on the liver of animals. It is shown that an argon laser ensures less damage to the tissue on the cut surface: The coagulation zone is narrower and charring is less marked.
