Current status and future prospects of the technology of laser tracking of satellites

Abstract: A brief historical account is given of laser tracking of satellites, requirements to be satisfied by laser tracking stations are formulated, and laser radar (lidar) systems deployed by the Smithsonian Observatory, NASA, and Interkosmos are described.
