Self-modulation of giant pulses emitted by a ruby laser at low temperatures

Abstract:
Self-modulation of giant pulses was observed and investigated in the radiation emitted at low temperatures by a ruby laser with a passive switch. A theoretical analysis was made with the aim of establishing the main features distinguishing this effect from the concomitant mode self-locking.
