Method for calculation of electrical and optical properties of laser active media

D. G. Aleksandrov, F. I. Filipov
Abstract: A method is proposed for calculation of the electron band structure of multicomponent semiconductor solid solutions. Use is made of virtual atomic orbitals formed from real orbitals. The method represents essentially an approximation of a multicomponent solid solution by a binary one. The matrix elements of the Hamiltonian are obtained in the methods of linear combinations of atomic and bound orbitals. Some approximations used in these methods are described.
