Abstract: A discussion is given of various theoretical and experimental aspects of the heating of a θ-pinch plasma by pulsed CO2-laser radiation under transverse excitation conditions. A description is given of a proposed experiment and of a diagnostic method based on the scattering of light. The experiment is analyzed within the framework of the linear hydrodynamic model. The results of theoretical calculations are given.
