Interaction of radiation with matter

Spectral and angular features of the propagation of an intense laser wave through sodium vapor

D. V. Gaĭdarenko, A. G. Leonov, A. A. Panteleev, A. N. Starostin, D. I. Chekhov
Abstract: An experimental study of the propagation of intense laser light in a resonant medium (sodium vapor) has revealed a scattering component which is inconsistent with the Raman scattering spectra of a three-level system in an intense laser field. Spectral and angular characteristics of this component have been studied. It is shown that the occurrence of this component can be explained by a model of a resonant four-wave mixing.
