Ultimate spatial coherence of the radiation emitted by single-mode chip lasers

Abstract:
An analysis is made of the factors influencing the degree of the spatial coherence $\gamma$ of miniature chip lasers with longitudinal semiconductor-diode pumping. Estimates are obtained of the ultimate spatial coherence of the radiation emitted by such lasers. It is shown that the value of $\vert1-\gamma\vert$ can reach $10^{-7}$ in the limit set by the beam width.
