Nonlinear interaction of counterpropagating waves in multimode fiber waveguides

Abstract:
A nonreciprocal nonlinear phase shift, which appears on interaction between counterpropagating waves in an N-mode fiber waveguide with a cubic nonlinearity, is shown to be on the average N2 times smaller than a nonlinear phase shift in a single-mode fiber waveguide.
